Kaz'O'zah Keza is venturing into an ambitious social impact project producing school shoes and bags for young students in Burundi.
The project is part of the partnership between Kaz'O'zah Keza and the Miss Burundi team, together with a group of recent university graduates. The Miss Burundi team and graduates will lead the fundraising, sales and marketing for the project, while Kaz'O'zah artisans skilled in leather work will produce the shoes and bags. Together the 3 groups will scale a project that will have the chance to impact on hundreds of Burundian school children.
This approach is somewhat new for Kaz'O'zah but is guiding many of our efforts this year. We mean business when it comes to the Burundian artisan industry. By partnering artisans with graduates, the combination of vocational and business skills not only achieves greater impact, but results in greater potential income for the artisans involved, and in employment opportunities for the Miss Burundi and graduate teams.
The wider social benefits and impact on social cohesion are equally as important - members of different socio-economic groups have the chance to work together for the great social good of Burundi. School children, irrespective of their economic status, will have the chance to access school shoes and a bag at an affordable price. Proper school equipment assists in school attendance and learning outcomes.
Training of all project participants is currently under way. The project will be piloted in several primary schools in Bujumbura before being scaled over the next 6 months.
