In 2017 Kaz’O’zah Keza is announcing the beginning of a new project – Building Bridges in Burundi (BBB). Kaz’O’zah is working with local and international organizations to build the social and economic resilience of Burundian youth at a time when many are in need. In partnership with American Friends Service Committee and local Burundian organization, Biraturaba, among others, Kaz’O’zah will be working to teach at risk Burundian youth valuable business and practical skills.
Over the next four years, Kaz’O’zah will help train over 200 young men and women to make, build or create products such as school uniforms, furniture and metal objects in two Burundian provinces. These young men and women will learn highly practical skills. At Kaz’O’zah, we value sustainable impact. It is not enough to provide training that will not result in increased incomes and employment opportunities once the project has finished.
And, it would not be a Kaz’O’zah project without the addition of non-vocational business skills that give trainees the best chance to succeed on their own after training. In this, Kaz’O’zah will be working closely with Biraturaba to equip the youth with basic business, leadership and savings and loan knowledge.
To make this project happen, Kaz’O’zah Keza has brought on a dynamic new project coordinator. Edmund Okiboko is originally from Uganda, and has just moved to Burundi to take care of Kaz’O’zah Keza’s projects: ‘’it is exciting being part of the team that will bring positive change in the community - especially in the lives of the youth. I think this project will have a great impact by promoting justice and trust in the communities.’’
It is a strong belief of all those involved in the BBB project that through economic empowerment the resilience of communities in Burundi as a whole will be improved. Where people have a purpose and earn an income, the cohesion between them is increased.
We are truly excited to announce this project, and look forward to creating a bright future for even more Burundians.
