Kaz'O'zah Art firmly believes in the empowerment and support of women. Women are often required to juggle raising children as well as earning a living, and in many countries, all over the world, they are paid less than their male colleagues. Eighty percent of Kaz'O'zah Art's artisans are women, and in our 7 person administrative team, there is only one man. This does not mean we do not support or work with men however! We would like to introduce you to Fidèle Mafasho, the lone male in our administrative team.
Fidèle grew up in Bujumbura, but attended university overseas. In 2013, he graduated from the Symbiosis International University in India with a degree in Business Administration and Information Technology. After graduating Fidèle decided to return to his home country to begin work.
A few weeks after he arrived a friend introduced him to Kaz'O'zah Art executive director, Ange Muyubira, and the rest, as they say is history! At the time Kaz’O’zah Art was growing quickly and in need of someone to take control of the financial department. Fidèle was the perfect fit!
When asked about being the only male on the Kaz’O’zah Art administrative staff, Fidèle replied “It was very different at first to work with only women, but I have learned so much from them, especially when it comes to making decisions. A client will walk in to the shop unsure what they want; watching the others has taught me how our intuition can be crucial in helping our clients to decide on a design that best suits them.”
Fidèle is crucial in controlling the finances of both Kaz’O’zah Art and the non-profit wing, Kaz’O’zah Keza, as well as managing government reporting and taxation.
But it is not all facts and figures for Fidèle. He also ensures there is a good atmosphere at Kaz’O’zah Art with his up-beat attitude and infectious laugh. Fidèle is always there with advice and direction for his fellow staff members and he is an important member of the Kaz'O'zah Art family.
