It has been incredibly busy at Kaz’O’zah Art this month. Our artisans have been working hard to create uniforms for Kazoza Finance, a local micro finance company, and for Brarudi, Burundi’s major beer manufacturer. We also sent Kitenge tote bags to the US, as gifts for the fellows of the Global Good Fund (our executive director Ange is also a fellow). Orders have been coming in from the US, Canada and Europe.
This is all fantastic news for artisans and for us - each order means were are succeeding in our mission to support Burundian artisans to earn a living. But a happy and productive team needs some down time too!
After weeks of hard work, it was time for some celebration and the first of our Team Building days for 2016. It was a day to relax, let loose and celebrate our achievements over the last year – a year that has been very difficult for many at Kaz’O’zah Art and in Burundi, but that has brought the Kaz’O’zah Art family closer together. Through supporting each other we have managed to survive the political turmoil and violence in Burundi, and also to continue growing. The artisans enrolled in the Art Innovation Incubator have gone through most of their training. As well, with consistent sales, our artisans have seen their incomes increase, with every little bit helping in this unstable environment.
So Friday was for fun. The events started with a treasure hunt around the Kaz’O’zah Art premises, and was then followed by some seriously competitive Pictionary and hilarious team building activities.

Lunch was a welcome break after all the activity.
After lunch everyone was given the opportunity to tell a story - Burundians of course love a good story! It was a great chance for artisans from different departments to share and also for the administrative team to give the artisans an insight in to what they do. The stories did not have to be just about work though – people from different backgrounds and districts all sat together and shared tales from their lives.
By late afternoon it was clear we had all been sitting for too long and there was only one thing that would help us – some serious dancing!
Our event came just two days before International Worker's Day, which seemed like an excellent time to celebrate the work of our artisans. Kaz’O’zah Art will host Team Building Events every few months to celebrate the most recent achievements of our team and to build connections and understanding between our team members. If you would like to contribute to such events, feel free to send a donation via our Home Page. If you have any Team Building activity ideas, send us an email!
