ASH LAUREN ROGERS
Executive Director - Lwala Community Alliance
Ash Rogers is the Executive Director of Lwala Community Alliance (Lwala). Lwala's work in Western Kenya has driven a 300% increase in contraceptive use and 64% decrease in under-5 deaths. Now, Lwala is on an ambitious path to influence how 1 million people access health care and demonstrate that locally-driven solutions are uniquely positioned to transform systems.
Ash comes to Lwala from the Segal Family Foundation, where she served as Director of Operations, overseeing a $12m portfolio of 180 grantee organizations across 20 Sub-Saharan African countries. Prior to SFF, Ash was a Global Health Corps Fellow in Uganda. Ash has worked with organizations including U.S. State Department, Komo Learning Centers, and HELP International – the common focus being developing tools to support grassroots innovators. CEO -The Street Business School / Bead for Life
Devin is the Co-Founder and CEO of Street Business School & BeadforLife and a thought leader on social entrepreneurship, women's economic empowerment, and earned-income generation for non-profits.
Street Business School is an entrepreneurial training program that helps women living in poverty to triple their incomes through the creation of small businesses. Graduates increase their income, on average, from $1.35 - $4.19 per day. Street Business School is now active in countries across Africa and will reach 1 million women by 2027.
Street Business School grew out of BeadforLife, a Fair Trade organization in which poor women earn income through the creation of hand-made paper jewelry, while receiving training so they can start a business to support themselves. BeadforLife is itself a non-profit social enterprise, which funds over half of its operating costs through product sales.
Devin's work has been featured in Nick Kristof's New York Times column, on the Today Show, O Magazine, Vanity Fair, Lehrer News Hour, Family Circle and dozens of other publications. She regularly speaks, teaches and mentors on the power of belief and how to end extreme poverty in our lifetimes.
